Chillout Sessions — Ministry of Sound

I did six of these albums but the last two were the only ones worth going back to. The Chillout Series by Ministry of Sound was a pretty safe, digestable collection of down tempo tracks from the artists of the moment. The briefs were always about escapism, which previously included a woman, usually in a bikini, at some exotic location. Thankfully we moved on from that to something that was not only more interesting to look at but also to make.

It started with the idea of a package holiday. Which I then interpreted quite directly to the extent of using miniatures to capture holiday scenes, all built with the idea they could fit on a packing crate. The miniatures were around 1.5m square and heavily featured a particular brand of German train scale miniature people set. These characters became perfect personalities to play out the subtle narratives within each tableau.
