QANTAS Spirit Of Youth Awards
Working with SOYA (Spirit of Youth Award by Qantas), we wanted to draw attention to the collaborative nature of the creative industry. This involved designing a machine that could paint a single image onto a wall.
A series of arms were held in place by powered magnets. One switch released the magnets and the arms, which were cantilevered and weighted, swung into action delivering a specific colour of paint to the wall. The paint was held in containers that would only emit at a certain rate once they had impacted the wall. The paint gushed out, flowed along specific channels until the form was described. I'm perpetually drawn to machines that are designed to do a very trivial singular task and the thought of creating one that only did this singular action was perfect.
